Conservation in South America
Paignton Zoo is very successful at breeding the Socorro Dove which is extinct in the wild. In 2008 birds from Paignton and Edinburgh zoos were sent to form the basis of a reintroduction project to restore the doves on their native island of Socorro, off the west coast of Mexico
