Stephen Kings

Appointed 2016

Stephen was born and largely brought up and schooled in Bristol. He took a History degree at Aberystwyth University before completing teacher training at Bristol University. He taught for 34 years in a variety of schools including five years as Deputy Head teacher at Torquay Boys Grammar School, ten years as Head teacher at Churston Ferrers Grammar School and latterly four years as founding Principal of Merchants’ Academy, Bristol, before retiring from teaching in 2010.

Since retirement he has been a governor in several schools and is currently vice Chair of the Bay Education Trust which is responsible for three schools in Paignton. He has been heavily involved in many charitable projects, often through the Rotary Club of Paignton, and has just completed a term as its President.

Stephen is married with four children and four grandchildren. He now lives in Newton Abbot. These days he is a keen sports spectator as opposed to player and is a lifelong and occasionally long suffering supporter of Bristol Rovers FC; although things have brightened up considerably in recent years!
